Monday

This morning when mom was taking me to school, we were driving down the curved road and a van came the opposite way around the curve and slid across the street and hit the telephone pole. Mom and I saw it happen. We drove past him, and I saw that his air bag opened, and he was okay. Mom stopped to help him, and another guy stopped and called the police. They came, and mom took me to school. Then after third hour I heard from Samantha that Erin had been in a crash last night. She slid into a ditch and hit a tree. She had bled all over her seat from her head, which is stapled up now. She wasn’t at school today, so I was texting with her during gym. I just feel really bad for Erin and this guy from this morning. Otherwise, this past weekend was alright. Rhonda and I went to see Fired up! On Friday. It was really funny. Saturday, I went shopping with mom and Meryl. I got two new tank tops and a swimsuit bottom for Hawaii! Which is less than 3 weeks away! I’m SO EXCITED!!! Sunday we went to church. And I worked on my homework. Now I should write a letter to Aunt Brenda asking her for money for Hawaii.

Gnight!

Present day me: I remember being absolutely stoked that I had the opportunity to go to Hawaii with my school’s band with ALL of my friends! I miss having all of these friends as an adult.

Monday

This past weekend was alright. Saturday was the fishery. Us girls went into town and “shopped.” We got ice cream and went to a few really lame stores. Everywhere in town is kind of gross. We had a big turkey dinner that night with amazing stuffing! Eddie, Meryl and I took a video of us talking like Darth Vader. It’s really funny! Sunday we all got up, hung out. They left about lunch time. Meryl and I drove home. I cleaned and unpacked because Hannah and Rhonda were coming over for the night. They both got dropped off. Hannah and I had gone to rent movies. We hung out, talked to David on the phone. Rhonda and he got into a fight. He and I were texting, and he wanted to know what Hannah thought of him. He likes her. Ugh! Another creeper. Anyway. We made chocolate cake. And then at like 10:30 Harry and Brad show up. We sat in the kitchen talking with them until like 12:15am! Then we sat in Harry’s car for a bit. It was one of the dirtiest conversations ever! But so funny! We went to bed at like 3am.

Today we woke up at 8! Way too early. We had more cake for breakfast, and we found a candy bouquet at the front door. Rhonda left at like 10:30. I took Hannah home. Came back, cleaned, got ready, then she came back over, and we got gas and went to the mall! Tried on crazy awesome clothes. And then came back here. I had a doctor’s appointment. And I got the meningococcal meningitis shot. And I came back home, finished watching My Best Friend’s Girl – good movie – and I took Hannah home again. Yep, good last 24 hours!

Present day me: This entry makes me remember all the things I’d do with my friends. Go to the mall, have guy friends stop by to chat, surprisingly until late at night. The town I was referring to in this entry is the town nearest to the cabin my family had at the time.

Last day. Thank god.

Well, yesterday we hung out here at the hotel. I sat up in the balcony and did my homework because my sunburn was killing me. And then I painted a bowl and frog. We all went to Habanero’s last night for dinner. It was pretty good. Today mom, Meryl, Oma, and I went into town in the morning to do a little bit of shopping. Then we all went to a really nice beach, we went swimming and I tanned, but didn’t get much. Then we went to the sea glass beach. We came back to the hotel and had dinner. We sat by the fire and had a cake to celebrate Susie’s birthday next week and Uncle Pat graduating. Um, not for me for getting my license because it’s not as important as those things. What the fuck ever. I was pretty pissed tonight along with Eddie and Meryl. We sat in our room complaining about the family and how Phoebe is turning into a really big bitch. But whatever. I’m so fucking glad we’re going home tomorrow!

Present day me: This was the year when these family vacations started to become less enjoyable. I do remember feeling unappreciated by my grandparents and aunts and uncles on this side of the family. Maybe I should have spoken up for myself, in hindsight, but I was very shy back then. When it came to standing up for myself, I didn’t know how to do so, especially with family members who were older than me. In my mind they knew best. I just vented to my siblings about any frustrations.

Saturday

These past few days were Thanksgiving break. It was alright. We went down to Oma and Opa’s on Wednesday. We just arrived and hung out and went to bed. The next day was thanksgiving. Meryl, Eddie and I went swimming and we had dinner. It was really good. There was only 8 of us. We went for a walk and hung out again. Mom, dad and Eddie went to the Phillips that night. Meryl and I stayed because Opa was taking us to the mall and Oma picked us up. So, we went to the mall on Black Friday. Wasn’t very busy. I got a new sweatshirt from Aeropostale, we got a twilight shirt and Queen shirt. Colorful mascara, aviators! Yeah, Oma took us to the Phillips, and we just hung out there. Us four girls were there most of the day together and we all got along, and it was good.

Then we left this morning, got home, unpacked, and went to rent a movie.

Present day me: I was so lucky to have grandparents with a house that had an indoor pool. It was great to be able to go swimming to get away from all of the adults. I also find it so crazy that a mall on black Friday in 2008 wasn’t that busy….

Dream from last night.

Hannah was having a party, but it was up at my cabin. Aaron was over (of course) and it was winter out. The layout of the cabin was different though. So, I guess all we did at the party was lounge around in my room and have a treasure hunt with everyone. It was kind of cool. Then I had a dream that I was hanging out in my room here in town and I hear my dad come home and yell up the stairs, “Gram’s is here!” and I rushed down the stairs and saw her wearing the same outfit that she was wearing in the picture that I have of her on my whiteboard. So, I give her a big hug and tell her about my life.

So yesterday I went to see Definitely, Maybe with Rhonda at 1:30 and that ended around 4. We walked around the mall until Delia, Beth, Hannah and Tabitha were coming. So, they got there and we hung out til about 6. Then Hannah and Rhonda had to leave so it was just the four of us. We went to Deb and tried on dresses. Then we went to Inside Scoop and bought candy because we went to see the movie 27 Dresses! So I saw two movies in one day! They were both really really good! After 27 Dresses we went home. Tabitha gave me a ride home. Then today I played DDR a few times and just hung out. It was relaxing. G’night!

Present day me: I remember this being quite an awesome thing! To be able to see two movies at the same theater in one day, with different friends! I also remember having that dream about Gram. I still miss her very much. I believe when a soul that’s passed shows up in one of my dreams that is their way of connecting with me again. This was my first dream with her in it since her passing. I gave her the biggest hug I could when I reached her!

Friday

1:26pm

Hey! Two of my cats are lying next to me on my bed at the cabin. Listening to the song Paralyzer and enjoying my clean room.

So, I was looking on the baker’s rack for whatever and I found a piece of paper that my dad wrote a poem on. Every time someone passes away, he goes by himself and thinks and writes a poem. It’s kind of interesting. And I decided to copy it down in here.

Dad’s poem about Gram’s passing

One day you will not be part of tomorrow. Your soul will be free to soar with the angels. Those of us you leave behind shall mourn your loss and miss you. The good you shared and the love you offered will take you home. Your example will guide us forward as we march on through the time that is ours.

That totally makes sense about Gram. I really miss her. Whenever I think of her, I think of when I hugged her, her voice and what her hands felt like. How her food tasted like. When she’d bite into a cookie me or Meryl made, her eyebrows would raise and she said, “mm, these are good,” and whenever she’d finish a cookie, she’d rub her hands together to get the crumbs off. I remember her rings and how her laugh was. And whenever we’d go into her kitchen and open her fridge she’d ask us, “what would you like?” Watching her put a quilt together or showing me one of her quilts. She loved sewing. She taught me many things, especially with sewing, some cookie making things too.

When she taught me how to knit while she was up at our house over the summer. She walked with me and Eddie to the store to get soda and juice for our drink stand. HOBBY LOBBY – the first week I stayed by her, I got a TON of stuff with her there. She kept telling people we went to the store Holly Hobby, haha. Yeah, there were a lot of fun times with her. I really miss her.

Present day me: this entry was a very very tearful memory. I read it and cried before I could even type it out. This is like a cozy hug from my Gram. She was so full of love and comfort. I still really miss her every day. I’m thankful I’m still connected to the rest of my family on that side. They have little parts of her within each of them. I am very thankful I have these memories to read about so many years later.

Friday, Aunt Ivy and Uncle Charlie surprised us by coming to our house unexpectedly! Mom picked me up at basketball practice with them in the car. I freaked out when I saw Aunt Ivy in the front seat and then Uncle Charlie behind her. So, Saturday we went to the humane society for an hour. We walked a big St. Bernard dog, he was very good! Then three little puppies that were only five months old! Awww! They were so cute! And we went to check out the cats. After that Eddie and Uncle Charlie went up to the cabin to help dad with the remodeling. Then us girls went shopping at Best Buy, Michael’s and Target. We got the game Sequence (Aunt Ivy bought it for us) and I bought The Sweet Escape by Gwen Stefani CD! And some lace to make bracelets out of. Very cool! Then today they went home. And we didn’t go to church. Because mom got stuck and she couldn’t pick us up in time. So, we played DDR, Sequence, went to the sledding hill for like an hour and then came back home. I cleaned and made valentines for Courtney and Tabitha. So, it was a relaxing weekend. I talked to Linda online for a while, too. I almost think she likes me better than Meryl. Probably not though.

Present day me: I remember my aunt and uncle surprising me at school when my mom came to pick me up. I remember getting into the car and being emotional. I kept saying, “That’s not fair!” because I was surprised and really excited to see them! When I was growing up this particular aunt and uncle always took their time to spend with us. It was a fun time with them when I was a child!
