Recap of my amazing vacation to Hawaii!

So, I had probably the best vacation ever this past week! When we were in the San Francisco airport for four hours I sat with a bunch of girls and we colored pictures for each other. And me, Rhonda and Hannah walked up and down the area and talked, we opened starbursts with our tongues and discussed the whole Beth and Nate situation because Beth ignored Nate for almost the whole trip, because she wanted this trip to be with friends not her boyfriend. Which is sad for him because he doesn’t like that idea at all so he started a notebook with Hannah and all they talk about is Beth. Anyway, the first night was sort of weird. We got there and had to go down to the lobby twice to reactivate our room keys. And it turns out that something in the door wasn’t activated so we finally got in and started unpacking. Then we went out to eat at subway and when Brandon saw us all the guys came and ate with us which was cool. We girls walked back by ourselves and finished unpacking and stayed up for a while talking about stuff including me and Brandon. 😊 I spent a lot of time with him on this trip, if he wasn’t such a player or flirt with so many girls I’m pretty sure him and I would be going out.

But anyway, the first full day there was good! We had the half day tour of Oahu and we stopped at various places to take pictures. Brandon and the guys were on a different bus than us, so we only got together at one of the stops during that. After that we had a free afternoon, so we went to the beach! Rhonda, Tabitha and I went straight into the water! We rode the waves and just enjoyed it. I was so happy to be swimming with friends in the ocean! Everyone else came over after they went out to eat. Rhonda, Tabitha, Brandon and I went back out into the waves. I tried to stay by Brandon, I think he liked my swimsuit. 😊 and like I wrote before, he carried me! Hehe. But he could have just been being nice… there were a lot of instances that week that steer toward he might like me. I found out him and I were in the same group for the scavenger hunt that night. Rhonda found out and she said, “It’s fate!” hehe. So that got me kind of excited for that night. Turns out though that I was completely exhausted during that so the scavenger hunt wasn’t that fun but hanging out with Brandon and Abby was.

The next day was the Polynesian Cultural Center. It was a long day. But fun. I pretty much explained all about today in the last pages, moving into the night of Tuesday (after we performed). We were all really hyper, so we went out shopping. Originally started all of us but we decided to have the girls and guys split up which was slightly awkward. I think Delia was jealous because the guys were hanging out with us more than her and Bridget. It’s not something we can control, Brandon just ends up tagging along with us when we leave the group. Honestly, I’m glad about that, but he can do whatever he likes. But while we went shopping that night I got pearls, a shell necklace and I think I was running a fever because I was insanely hot and I felt so tired, so we ended up going back and we went to bed. The next day (Wednesday) was snorkeling and the hike up to Diamondhead and that last night while we went shopping was probably the most fun I had with Brandon, him and I walked together and we kept bumping arms and flirting and the whole time Rhonda, Tabitha and Hannah were smiling at us. Maybe he is incredibly oblivious to my feelings for him…? Obviously Delia and Bridget aren’t, I just hope they don’t tell anyone because I don’t’ want people finding out and talking to me about it…. So, that’s pretty much my vacation. I wish I was still there.

Present day me: I love revisiting these journal entries about my band trip to Hawaii! It was an amazing trip and I made really great memories with my friends. It was also awesome to have a sort of flirtation-ship with Brandon during that week.

Day 3 in Hawaii!

Saturday night we arrived in Hawaii around 5:30pm. It’s 5 hours earlier here than Wisconsin, so we had a 23 hour day on Saturday. We got to the hotel (crappy compared to Mexico) and unpacked, before we could get into our room, which is #869! We had to go down to the lobby twice! Because our keys weren’t working. But we made it in, unpacked and went out for dinner. We were all starving and just wanted something light and easy, so we ate at subway! Haha. Right before we entered subway we saw the guys, (Brandon, Craig, Devin and Brad) and we ate with them. The guys left for the hotel earlier than us, so we had some creepy Hawaiian guys make creepy remarks to us. We made it back to the hotel and finished unpacking. Talked a whole bunch about Beth and Nate (she’s ignoring him) Hannah and Kyle (he was kind of ignoring her) AND I told them that I like Brandon. And I think he likes me too. While we were in the San Franscisco airport Brandon was sitting next to me with a notebook and he drew me as wonder woman! Haha. He didn’t draw anyone else and then when we met the guys at subway it seemed like Brandon just saw me and he decided that he wants to hang out with us to eat. All three of them were happy when I told them that I like him. My feelings for him aren’t strong, yet. But that could change.

So yesterday we woke up and got ready to go on the Best of Oahu Half-Day Tour. We were on our original 3 buses taking a tour and seeing/stopping to take pictures at Diamond Head Crater from the outside – Kahala – Hawaii Kai – Hanauma Bay – Halona Blow Hole – Famous Beach called Sandy’s – Makapuu Point – Waimanalo – Pali Lookout. I got some good pictures with everyone and some good scenery shots. We got finished up with that around 11:30. And we had the rest of the day of free time! So, we went to the beach! We all changed into our suits and walked down there with our big group of friends. We went swimming and tanned. It was amazing to be in the ocean with my friends instead of my family. Brandon, Tabitha, Rhonda and I swam way out to a sandbar over a ton of rough rocks which I hit my leg on coming back. I kind of tried to swim by Brandon most of the time. 😊 and on the way back I complained to him how my leg hurt, and he picked me up and carried me through the water. Rhonda and Tabitha saw, and Rhonda made a face. But he ended up dropping me and I got water up my nose. After we went swimming and tanning for a while we were starving because we had no food that whole day. So, us four, and six other girls all walked down to a restaurant called Cheeseburger in Paradise. It was really good. After that Hannah, me, Beth and Abby walked on the beach and took some pictures and then we had the Waikiki scavenger hunt. I was in a group with Brandon (cool!), Erin, Abby and a girl from gym class. The whole thing was pretty lame I talked mostly with Abby and Brandon. And by the time that was over, I was totally out of it. I desperately needed sleep. So, Tabitha ended up finishing first out of the four of us so I had to let her into our room when I got back and we ended up talking about a bunch of stuff. I was glad that I got to hang out with Brandon but It wasn’t like a total flirting session. We were just buddy-buddy because I was so exhausted. So yeah.

Present day me: this is fun reading about a band trip to Hawaii that I have lots of good memories of.

Yesterday us five got up, drove up hwy 1 to Muir Woods! It had more giant Redwoods! It was actually a pretty cool place. We got there and had lunch, then walked on the many trails for about three hours. Then dad wanted to drive through Berkeley College. We got lost finding Berkeley. But when we did find it, we had to pay to drive through campus. So, we didn’t see anything at Berkeley! Dad and mom were kind of disappointed but oh well. Then we were all hungry and mom and Eddie had to pee. So, we set off to find a restaurant with a bathroom! We found a bathroom, but the restaurant couldn’t accept credit cards. So…. we went to the grocery story to get dinner. It was a fun day!

So, what we did today! We got up and I asked dad what we were going to do today, he said we’re going to the Big Foot Museum in Felton – just outside of the city. That place didn’t open until 1 o’clock, so we went downtown to check out the stores. We went to Palace, the scrapbooking store. Where I went last time with Aunt Penny and got all the cool stationary stuff. And we looked at other stores. Oh yeah! I watched The Family Stone on tv. And Meryl, mom and me went on a walk down the beach before we went downtown. We drove to the museum, and it ended up being closed, so we just drove back to the house.

Present day me: The redwoods were amazing!!! I remember taking many pictures while there.

A few years prior to this time I had the opportunity to visit my Aunt Penny in California all by myself. I wasn’t too scared of flying alone because I had done it a few times with my family already at that age. When I was with only Aunt Penny, she and I did a ton of shopping and sightseeing. I only had a couple days with her for that trip, and I had a great time! I got so many cool scrapbooking, notebooks and writing things from that store – Palace. I dreamt about going back between the two visits I had to California as a kid. I hope I can visit again someday. I also remember how the beach was around the house we were staying at. There were sections that the ocean carved out underneath the land where the houses stood. I wanted to explore one, there were a few, while I was with Aunt Penny. But, by the time we walked back to the house for me to change into my swimming suit I changed my mind, and we did something else.

I am so grateful I wrote about this trip as it happened. Me today, would not have remembered all of this without my entries to remind me.

Well early this morning we got to Aunt Penny’s house at about 2 o’clock. Then we slept and got up at like 7am. We all went on a walk on the beach, then we went to Noah’s Bagels for breakfast. I love Noah’s!!! After breakfast we just walked around down there. Then we drove to this mini-Redwood trees site. It was really cool! One tree we could walk into the trunk of it! And still had room! The girl that showed us the inside said people used to use it for a honeymoon spot in the late 1800s. That’s pretty cool! After we went to the redwoods, Aunt Penny wanted to get some hot chocolate. Me and Eddie got milk chocolate. Meryl got white chocolate. It was really really good! The chocolate was really rich! You kind of needed to drink it along with some water! But it was good! Hehe. After the hot chocolate we went to the boardwalk to see the sea lions! That was cool! Me, Eddie, Meryl and dad got caramel apples. Mine and Meryl’s and dad’s had caramel, white chocolate and cinnamon on it. Eddie’s just had caramel. They were good! After that we came back home, and mom and dad got groceries and Uncle Ron and Aunt Penny, me and Meryl went out for lunch and did some errands! That was cool. We went to this BBQ Texas grille restaurant. Good food! After the errands we came back home and sat and tried to fix the hot tub (the heater wasn’t working) so, we hung out for a little bit, we had a little trouble with the tv and dish satellite. So, I helped Aunt Penny with the customer service for it. Then after that (we did A LOT today) me, Meryl, mom, and Aunt Penny went to get manicures and pedicures!!!! That was fun. I got pink on my toenails and fingernails. Then this cool flower design on my two thumbs! Very pretty! I <3 my nails! Ummm, so yeah, now we’re waiting for Uncle Ron and Aunt Penny to get back with the pizzas for dinner. It’s 8:30pm! And I am hungry!!! Today was so much fun!!! Happy St. Patrick’s Day! (I used a green pen to write this entry)

Present day me: This was our first day in California! I remember that as my first manicure and pedicure ever and I felt so cool! It’s really incredible the number of things we did that day! I don’t remember it being so jam packed. I’m glad I kept track of our trips! Visiting the giant redwood trees was a very memorable part of visiting California!!

February 17, 2007

On Wednesday the 15th Eddie, Mom, Opa, Uncle Pat, Uncle Leroy and Aunt Margot went deep sea fishing. But that day was cold out. The wind was blowing all over and they were in a very small fishing boat. But they caught lots of fish, red snapper, perch, and trigger fish. Those fish were fileted, and we had them for dinner that night. Fed thirteen of us and still had leftovers. They got back around 10:30am (they left at 5:30am) because mom and Uncle Pat both threw up and the others were getting nauseous. The rest of the day we just hung around at the beach, and to me it was kind of an all together boring day.

On Thursday the 16th Nana took all the grandchildren and my mom to the aquarium. Nana ran out of cash, so she had to get money from Eddie. Being Eddie, he gave her all his money. (Don’t worry he gets it all paid back) and the cost for the aquarium came up to $40 USD!!! For 8 people. We walked through the outside with all different kinds of birds flying around us. It was pretty cool. Then we walked inside the building to see all the fish and sea animals.

So, after the aquarium we walked up to Senor Frogs Restaurant. That place was AWESOME! Me, Phoebe, and Meryl got mango drinks then Meredith and Susie got strawberry drinks. Good drinks! When we walked into the restaurant everything was autographed with people’s name and other weird sayings. So that was cool reading all that. Then after we were done eating a guy came around and made each of us a different kind of balloon hat. Me and Phoebe got the same design just different colors. That was a fun place. We did sign one of the pillars that was right by our table, me, Meryl, Eddie, and Phoebe signed it.

After Senor Frogs we walked back to the aquarium because we wanted to see the bird show. It was kind of weird, but okay. After the bird show Nana wanted to see the Sea Lion Show. But there wasn’t another one until 4pm. So, we had 2 hours to spare. We decided to go to the shops down main street. Meryl, Eddie, Phoebe, and I walked down there while the rest took the car. It was fun. We were all in really good moods. So, we shopped and walked around for like the rest of the day. That was the only day of our vacation that we didn’t go in the pool or ocean.

On Friday we all went down to the beach for the last day. The tide was really high and the waves were big. Phoebe and I went swimming in the waves. I got sucked under a couple times, but it was fun. We all just sat on the beach most of the day. Played 3 or 4 games of volleyball with a bunch of people from Canada! Then at 3 o’clock we had to go on a tour of the city (Kind of ridiculous to go on the last day) But it was cancelled. So, we just went out to eat at a place called Lapalapa Del Mar. They had good food. After we ate at 4pm we walked down the main street and looked around. Last night was fun. We fit 9 of us into a 5-person car. Everyone had someone on their lap except the driver, Opa. There were a LOT of Canadians staying at our hotel. We were the only one’s from the Midwest.

Present day me: This trip to Mexico was our third time in Mexico, but our first in Mazatlán. I remember it being the most fun trip because everyone was in good moods. The Senor Frogs experience really has stuck with me throughout these years. I felt so happy to be with my family and to have a good time with them. It felt complete and like a perfect family vacation.

February 12, 2007

Well, we’re in Mazatlan, Mexico. Our second day here has now come to an end. Well mentally I’m kind of going crazy, physically my skin is burnt to a crisp (actually no, I’ve had worse) my forehead hurts, from sunburn and my left upper arm and shoulder are hurting the most. But enough about me complaining. Nobody likes complainers. So…

We got here Saturday the 10th at about noon. And we got to the hotel, The Mayan Sea Garden. We had to wait until 5 o’clock to get our room and went swimming in the pool, explored and went to bed at 8:45! We were dead tired! So yeah.

Then on Sunday, aka yesterday, we woke up at like 7:30am and got our swimming suits on with some nice clothes over them. Because we had to go to this business breakfast so they could sell the adults timeshares or whatever. We sat there for an hour then the kids could escape to go swimming in the pool or ocean. We did both! I LOVE the ocean! Yesterday was pretty much hanging around water. We also played beach volleyball! Oh! I love vball!

Today: we planned to go shopping so everyone except Opa and Uncle Leroy took the two rental cars and we drove them into the town. The two cars got separated because we couldn’t find a parking spot, so I spent the whole morning walking around the central market, (not buying anything) with Phoebe, Meryl, Eddie, Oma and Uncle Pat. Pretty fricken boring morning if you ask me. But we came back to the hotel and ate lunch and went swimming! In the Beautiful Pacific Ocean and the pool that’s beautiful too! And there was a Mexican fiesta we just came back from. Entertainment was there!! They had good food and good entertainment!

(Wow, do I miss my friends) When I first opened this and found my list of friends’ addresses, I almost started crying. Today was the first day I missed school for the whole 8th grade! But oh well. Man, do I miss my dad and my kitties!

<3 Ava Estelle

Present day me: This was one of the more fun trips to Mexico that I remember. It was a struggle travelling with about 13 people though. Usually, good memories were had! My dad didn’t join us on these annual trip so it made us miss him and felt like there was a part of our family missing at times.
